Five USCB Faculty Members Earn RISE grants in 2019

Five USCB faculty members have been selected to receive 2019 RISE grants to support their research projects, according to an announcement from the Office of the Vice President for Research at the University of South Carolina. Fresh off the news of her Fulbright Scholar Research Award, Dr. Kim Cavanagh was selected to pursue her research on the Barnwell Site Project, an archeological dig in Beaufort County to determine the age and use of a tabby structure. Ed D’Antonio, Ph.D., was selected for his proposed research project, “Exploration of 3-Nitro-2-Phenyl-2H-Chromene Analogues as Anti-Trypanosoma cruzi Glucose Kinase Inhibitors.” Erin McCoy, Ph.D., was selected to pursue “Tours of War: Completing an Introductory Cultural History of the Vietnam War.” Caroline Sawyer, Ph.D., was selected for her project, “On the Banks of the River: Transmedia Storytelling in USCB’s & SCETV’s By the River.” And Volkan Sevim was chosen for his project, “Investigating college algebra students’ current pre-requisite understandings and testing the effects of an alternative pre-requisite algebra curriculum: A mixed-methods study.”
