Dr. Ellen Malphrus earned the prestigious 2023 Carolina Trustees Professorship Award for her work with aspiring writers. She is a Professor of English and Writer in Residence with USCB’s English Department.

USCB English major, Gullah poet and novelist Edra Stephens has been selected as a manuscript fellow for prestigious writers’ workshop The Watering Hole, “a southern-based vanguard who builds Harlem Renaissance-style spaces in the contemporary South.”
USCB has hired its inaugural men's and women's basketball head coaches: Ron Fudala and Sharon Versyp. Both have achieved great success in their careers and look forward to building Sand Shark basketball.
